Applying the feedback.....

Hello everyone,

So I have now received my feedback from my from my first draft and am now sifting my way through it in the hope of improving my work.

The aspect I am struggling with the most is the inclusion of Literature to theorise my inquiry. The literature I have included so far is from relevant practitioners which offer opinion based and informative literature, rather than theoretical literature.

I wonder if anyone else has struggled with this and if so has any advice to offer?

Paula described it as giving the reader a wider view on the inquiry - I guess in essence to assume that the reader knows nothing about the Performance Arts and therefore giving them the full picture, even if this means diverting from the inquiry.

If anyone has any further advice on this, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Invaluable information....

I have spent this evening reading through my responses from my interviews. I was fortunate enough to conduct 4 interviews with senior leaders at some of the country's top Theatre Schools.

I have been trawling through the responses, looking at themes and stand out comments, however regardless of this, the information I have received is fantastic and I know that it will benefit my learners greatly.

I guess the point I am trying to make is....regardless of whether the data correlates or is analysed in the correct way for the purposes of this degree, the information I have received through this process is incredible and I am grateful for that, regardless of the outcome of the module (which fingers crossed I hope will be good :) )

I hope everyone is getting on well with their drafts and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the coming weeks.

Update on Module 3....

Well, the surveys have been returned, interviews conducted and literature gathered. I have spent the majority of today analysing the data from my survey and have created a POA for the rest of the week, so that I can get a draft of the analysis to my advisor by the end of the week.

I must admit I am finding it a challenge to manage the workload with a full time teaching post, however it is a challenge I am ready to take on board and just a few more weeks hard work to go!!

Trial Survey...

I have decided to conduct a trial of my Graduate survey with a couple of friends (who meet the criteria of course) in order to gain some feedback before sending it out on mass.  I have used the basis of my survey conducted in Module 2, however I have made some tweaks to make it more relevant to my inquiry question.

In doing this, I hope to ensure that my survey gets me the best possible data in relation to my inquiry.
Once trialled and feedback applied, I will post on the blog and I hope that as many of you will complete it as possible :)

My inquiry focuses on the best preparation for young people wanting to enter full time professional training. 

I currently work as a Musical Theatre Tutor at Blackpool Sixth Form College and therefore my inquiry links to my own practice and how I can best prepare my BTEC students who want to pursue full time professional training.

Update on Module 3

Inquiry Title - "What is the best way to prepare someone for full time professional training in Musical Theatre/Dance?"

I am very excited about Module 3 and only wished that I could devote more time to it. Nevertheless, I am doing what I can and trying to move along as swiftly as possible.

My inquiry has three main strands....

1 - Interviews with Audition Panel members at Theatre Schools -  to find out what the country's leading Theatre Schools are looking for in potential students.

2 - Graduate Survey - from the perspective of people who have been through and survived the intensive training. What do they wish they had been told? What skills do they wish had been developed further before starting? etc.

3 - Literature Reviews surrounding my inquiry.

Where am I up to?..........

1 - I have had an excellent response from several Principals and Course Leaders at some of the country's top Theatre Schools. Using my mentor as my gatekeeper was an excellent strategy in order to gain access to this group and I have managed to interview 4 Principals/Course Leaders. The interviews have provided me with some really interesting and I hope useful data. At present I haven't had the time to fully analyse the responses, however I am looking forward to doing this very soon and seeing how this fits into my overall inquiry.

2 - I am currently in the process of sending out my Graduate survey via survey monkey. I hope to have this sent by the end of this week and responses back by the end of next week.

3 - I have spent a significant amount of time choosing literature which I believe will assist my inquiry. At present I have not conducted the literature reviews and this is most certainly next on the 'to-do' list! I will be using the guidance in Reader 7 in order to conduct my literature reviews.

As I have had a large interruption from study, I am still very much looking for SIG members and I shall be commenting on your blogs and getting to know your inquiries in more detail :)

Getting started and help from fellow BAPPers

Last week I had the opportunity to talk with Paula and discuss my inquiry project after what seems like an eternity. We discussed any changes that may need to happen due to new circumstances and a plan of action for the near future.

As suggested in the Module Handbook, I have looked at my feedback from Module 2 and have emailed Paula with an update on my inquiry.

My first focus is on the literature review and sourcing relevant literature for my inquiry. I wonder if it is okay to use the literature from Module 2 and add to this with further relevant and interesting literature? Does anyone know the answer to this? I found my literature from Module 2 to be extremely relevant to my inquiry and I would like to include this in my actual inquiry.

I have also been drafting a letter to send out to potential interview participants. As suggested, I have sent this to Paula and also my mentor to check over and give feedback before actually sending it out. I want to make sure I am following all ethical procedures and most importantly wording it in the best way in the hope of getting lots of participants.

Literature Review: Is a full and comprehensive literature review written for each piece of literature or do you take relevant points and quotes from each and include this in your final piece? Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Return to BAPP - Module 3

So after having a 2 year interruption from my BAPP studies I am now returning to complete Module 3 and carry out my professional inquiry...

"What is the best way to prepare someone for full time professional training in Musical Theatre/Dance?"

Due to the long period of interruption I no longer have an SIG on Blogger, therefore I am calling out for anyone who may think my inquiry relevant to theirs or anyone who just wants to have a chat about it :)
